Sharing your impact builds trust with funders, partners and the communities you serve. But impact reporting isn’t a new name for an annual report. Your annual report covers operations, governance and financial sustainability. An impact report sits alongside it and does a different job entirely: it shows the difference you’ve made for the people you exist to help, and names the systemic barriers still standing in their way.
That means an impact report can only be built once an impact measurement framework already exists, the data and stories in a good report come directly out of that framework, not from scratch.
A compelling impact report is short. It uses your data to demonstrate real change in people’s lives, illustrated through genuine, de-identified stories. It showcases their achievements, not the organisation’s. Done well, it’s also the clearest way to prove to funders that investing in you creates the change they’re looking for.
